"Explosion of the Kakhovka reservoir"-art project
During the summer art residence of 2023, tragic events took place for Ukraine and the environmental situation in the world as a whole-undermining the Kakhovka reservoir.
These events struck me and I, as an artist, could not stay away from this subject.
This is how the idea of the painting "Blowing up the Reservoir" was born.
The main topic of this project is an environmental disaster in Kakhovka, Ukraine.
One could say the world was on the verge of an environmental disaster.

The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam is a war crime and potentially an act of ecocide committed by the occupying forces of the Russian Federation on June 6, 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Most likely, the Kakhovskaya HPP dam was mined and blown up, which led to its destruction. About 16,000 people are in the disaster zone, and about 80 settlements may be flooded as a result of the terrorist attack.
Pollution of the Black Sea, shallowing of the Kakhovsky Reservoir, loss of irrigation in the Kherson Region, etc. - these are the consequences  undermining the Kakhovsky HPP.

The undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP caused a lot of trouble in the east of Ukraine, but the rising of water from the territory of the reservoir freed the legendary Velikiy Lug from flooding. The territory, which was sacred to the Ukrainian Cossacks, was specially flooded by the Soviet authorities during the construction of the reservoir.
The actions of the occupiers fall under the characteristics of the crime "Ecocide". Ecocide is the mass destruction of plant or animal life, poisoning of the atmosphere or water resources, as well as the commission of other actions that can cause an ecological disaster.
